Bruce Wayne is invited to the ancestral castle of the Waynes in England, where he meets several distant relatives and encounters a ghostly knight bent on centuries-old vengeance. When a recently divorced socialite is mysteriously killed by something that literally crushed her head, Barbara Gordon decides to investigate. She soon becomes interested in a wig maker named Vazly and goes to purchase a wig, little knowing that it was Vazly who was responsible for the murder, and that he implanted devices into his wigs in order to extort money from the rich.

Batman investigates a "Legacy of Hate!" Called to an ancient castle to check some mysterious goings on, Batman finds himself seeing "ghost" knights in armour - as do the other guests at the castle, who are all distant relatives of Bruce Wayne from around the world. A physical encounter with the so-called ghost proves to Batman it is no phantom he is up against - but who is it that wants to give the impression that the place is haunted? Turns out that a descendant of one of the ancient castle's owner's wants revenge for the death of his ancestor many years ago.

In the follow up story, Batgirl finds herself with a splitting headache when she puts on a wig designed for someone else. The wig has been tampered with and an electrical device which can send impulses to the brain inserted by a pair of crooks who want to control the woman who should be wearing the wig. The couple can't believe their luck when Batgirl enters the scene and they are able to control her with the ever tightening wig.
